Pharmacology is the branch of pharmacy education that mainly involves pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of drugs. Pharmacodynamics refers to what the drug does to the body whereas pharmacokinetics refers to what the body does to the drug.
The branch encompasses the mechanism of action, side effects of drugs and involves investigation of acute and chronic toxicity of drugs. Pharmacology is all about "Finding out how drugs work”. It is concerned with the effects of drugs on living organisms and their components. Research in this department involves studying the activity of drugs using in vitro methods and suitable animal models.
