Pharmacognosy is a branch of pharmacy education that focuses on drugs derived from plants, animals, and microbes. Herbal medicines are created by integrating traditional wisdom with modern science and technology.

The Department of Pharmacognosy is dedicated to providing knowledge in various aspects of natural medicinal products through both theoretical and practical training. This department features a collection of 25 plant species. Research initiatives in this field encompass the extraction and purification of natural active compounds, characterization of natural drugs, development of natural drug products, and evaluation of natural drugs for different pharmacological effects. The department is well-equipped with two undergraduate laboratories, a crude drug museum, herbal garden, and modern equipment necessary for the extraction and isolation of natural medicinal products
